| Upper or Lower Eyelid Lift: Blepharoplasty Excess skin from the upper or lower eyelid may be removed. This is called the blepharoplasty. Upper Eyelid Lift:Blepharoplasty In Asia, the so-called "double-eyelid operation" is synonimous with upper eye lid lift (blepharoplasty). Blepharoplasty, is the removal of skin and fat from the eyelid. By removing excess fat and skin, there is less skin/fat overhanging the eye. Thus blepharoplasty makes the eye appaear larger. Blepharoplasty may be performed in the upper or lower eyelids, and involves an incision.  Eye Lid Lift Without removing the skin: Blepharorrhaphy Blepharorrhaphy is the suturing of the eylid to itself. This makes the eyelid fold over, onto itself. Unlike blepharoplasty, blepharorrhaphy is reversibleand has a much smaller scar. However, it is not well suited for patients with moderate to severe excess of eyelid skin or fat. It is offered to patients with little excess eyelid skin or fat. Lower Eyelid Lift for "Baggy" Eyes With aging, the area above and below the eyes sags. There is also accumulation of fat under the skin which causes a certain "pufiness" above and below the eyes. In the case shown here, this older aged lady had baggy upper and lower eyelids. She chose to have a lower blepharoplasty (eye lid lift) which also removes the excess skin and fat. She was also placed on a facial skin care program, which reduces facial wrinkling. At some point in the future, she may elect to have an upper eyelid lift, eyebrow lift or even a facelift. However, proper skin care and prescription creams may be all that is needed for now. Eyelid Surgery: Making Eyes Rounder  Canthoplasty is a procedure that makes the eye more round. It may be performed on the inner or outer angle (canthus) of the eye. Sometimes all that is needed is the removal of excess eyelid fat, not blepharoplasty per se, which removes skin and fat. | |
