The Hammond Community Hospital Ambulatory Care Center The Hammond Ambulatory Care Center functions Like a Miniature Hospital. It is a fully accredited ambulatory care center. An ambulatory care center (ACC) has many more services than the typical ambulatory surgery center (ASC). Unlike surgery centers, the Hammond Ambulatory Care Center has CT scans, ultrasound machines and MRI machines on site. In this way, the ACC functions like a miniature hospital and has many more capabilities than a surgery center. Since the Hammond ACC has hospital-type capabilities, it is able to perform more extensive procedures than a surgery center. For example, the Hammond ACC is staffed by over 90 physicians, covering all medical specialities including: Cardiology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Pain Management, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Orthopedics, etc. Consequently, surgeons on staff at the Hammond ACC can perform more extensive surgery procedures than would be possible at a surgery center. The Hammond ACC performs general surgery procedures, vascular surgery procedures, gynecologic and extensive plastic surgery procedures. Unlike a surgery center, the Hammond Care Center may schedule primary care patients, preoperative and postoperative follow up visits. Consequently, surgical patients can come to the Hammond ACC for all their pre-operative, operative and post-operative visits.
The advantage of an ACC over a hospital is lower cost when compared to a hospital, easier access and free parking within a short distance to the facility. The ACC does not have to be open 24 hours per day and does not operate an emergency room, which increase the cost of services. On the other hand, the ACC has more staffing and imaging capability than a surgery center or surgical office suite, so it has higher facility and staffing charges than either. |
